Are they 'born in' themselves, or did they choose the cult of their own free will?

Rec'd a letter from my Dad - need some advice...
by Fadeaway3pointer infader here - last meeting was in autumn 2005. lurker on this site and others.
not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.

Finding sources
by PointlesslyMild inso i’m working on a letter to my parents.
i’m leaving home and the jws in next year or two and i wanted to write a letter on why, critically, i cannot be a part of the jws.
part of this letter i want to discuss the child abuse and gross neglect of those abused in the organization - as proved by recent court documents/cases, and reliable articles.

Bad idea. Asking them questions without providing them with your preferred answers is less confrontational and puts the onus of proof on them, not you.

How it will end for the believers
by iankiptoo intoday, many signs have been fulfilled showing that we are in the end times and much has been said in regards to armageddon, tribulation... etc but little in regards to what happens to those who believe and what transitions them to be free and escape from all that to the final destination.
this is my focus and message is based on that.in creation, there were two trees at the centre of the garden of eden and we are familiar with what happened;man ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and then we are familiar with the ramifications afterwards.
now through jesus christ, the events that will lead to the end for those who believe are in 3 stages1.knowledge will be increased (daniel 12:4)there will be a transition, knowledge will transition from that of the tree of knowledge of good and evil to also include knowledge of the tree of life and this brings with it a transformation that will bring in the second phase2.healingthe knowledge/belief/faith will bring about spiritual transformational healing, also practical knowledge i.e.

Refocus already.
What happened to the past generations of people that believed what had been said in regards to armageddon, tribulation... etc. before they passed away without those hopes being fulfilled?

If you want to get your family out, you have to be the last one out, not the first. When you out yourself as Satan's Minion, you sacrifice your chances of having sane conversations with JW family members, so keep up your appearance of being a SuperDub while asking questions that are problematic without ever supplying answers or your own opinion.

He was also the author of Beautiful Losers and The Favorite Game. Both are 'must reads' for Cohen fans, (In my opinion).

The impact and consequences of being born into the jehovahs witness cult.
by RayoFlight2014 inhi from new south wales australia.
fyi , it's tuesday 10th september 2:36am here.. i am categorically not going to blame the cult for every poor choice.
i am conscious of the fact that i was at a genetically determined disadvantage academically; i was never going to be outstanding in my achievements, no matter how hard i tried.

Congratulations for not getting baptised. That has to be the best thing I never did. It has allowed me to keep up my relationships with my family. Dysfunctional, yes, but that's better than an outcast from being DF or DA.

Emergency 'grab bag' campaign accused of scaremongering
by pleaseresearch ina police campaign to get the public to prepare a "grab-and-go" bag in case of emergencies has been both criticised and mocked by social media users.. a police scotland tweet urged people to pack essentials such as a first aid kit, radio, torch, and food and water.. its recommendations were part of an annual preparedness month, which is being promoted by local authorities and emergency services across the uk.. however, the police force has been accused of scaremongering.. the tweet read: "september is preparedness month.
emergencies can happen at any time and it's recommended to have a #grabbag ready containing essential items including medication, copies of important documents, food/water, torch, radio and other personal items.".

That depends on which Corstorphine you live in, Cofty. In Corstorphine in New Zealand, you can't buy Buckfast and the ground shakes more often.

I'm an opportunistic omnivore and eat whatever is cheap and locally grown when I can. If I have tomatoes ripe, I eat tomatoes. If I have bananas ripe, I eat bananas, caught fish I eat fish, shot Bambi, I eat venison, made cheese, I eat cheese etc..
You have to be careful with vegetarianism and especially veganism, as there are some nutrients that are difficult to get and there are some right nutters promoting these diets who haven't done their homework. or aren't suffering the known deficiencies yet, or worse, are having symptoms but are ignoring them thinking that they haven't been following their chosen diet Guru as strictly as they should have.been.
The important lesson I learned when playing with restrictive diets, was that failure to thrive on a chosen diet is likely to be more about the poor nutrition from the food choices than from your ability to stick to the rules and that trying harder to obey the rules may make your chance of thriving worse.

I was helping my neighbor to do his recycling today and noticed that about half of the glass bottles had plastic labels. What's wrong with paper labels and biodegradable glue? As of today, I will be voting with my wallet and preferring products with paper labels.

Money! How much did you "Contribute" To The WTB@TS When You Were A Member
by The Bethelite ini was in full time service for six years including bethel.
once i got out of bethel, i figured i had already given them six of the best years of my life (ages 18-24) working as a slave/drone in their factory, so i rationalized that i had given them enough... so over the next 27 years i would say maybe $200 bucks is it.
i think their whole "voluntary contributions" idea is biting them in the ass, because over all jehovah's witnesses are a cheap group people with a few exceptions.

I'd hazard a guess that by the time I stopped contributing, my family would have been in the red. I would have cost them more in travel expenses than I ever contributed.
